iPhone 3.0

Well hello all,

In the words of a slightly unfashionable song by Staind.."it's been a while"...

And it's true, it has been a while. Too long in fact! What usually inspires me to write again is when something makes me laugh or irritates me...usually the latter...

My latest rant then, would be with regards to the iPhone 3.0 update. Having a heard about the imminent release of the iPhone 3GS, I was unable contain my excitement when I heard that Apple would also be releasing a free update for current 3G users, which would include the majority of the updates to be included in the new phone. When has a company ever done that? It all sounded rather too good to be true, but when I was finally able to install the update, I was pleasantly suprised by the array of new features - it was rather like getting a new phone. My contentment was short-lived. Shortly after this, things became progressively worse: applications crashed and there was a ridiculous amount of slowdown. The silky smooth interface, for which the iPhone is so well renowned, all but disappeared. And it's still like that now. It's just too slow: menus don't scroll nicely, virtual buttons require repeated presses to work and a particular application, IM+, crashes for no reason and can't keep up with fast typing. I can't decide whether to restore the phone to operating system 2.0. It just seems like so much hassle! Apple, thanks for the free update, but i'd suggest that, either, it's glitchy, or, the 3G hardware just can't cope.

Has anyone else experienced any of these problems? Or perhaps, on the contrary, you've had good experiences with iPhone 3.0?

Take care all.

A little song that is getting a lot of my attention at the moment...

protect yourself: the alarming problems with Paypal

Well folks,

I am currently in a dispute with Paypal and have had to involve the police (really can't be bothered to go into the details).

With Ebay making it mandatory to offer Paypal as a payment option, how safe are we and how many more horror stories will we hear?

Share your stories with me, or click on the link above. If you've had bad experiences, trust me, you're not alone!

Peace!

first snow

And so finally we experience our first, pathetic sprinkling of snow here in southern England. I recorded this video not 15 minutes ago, but as I write this it has already stopped. Oh well, I'm sure that it will be followed by mushy goodness.

What happened to snow in England? In fact, what happened to any kind of extreme weather? In the media you hear of an ever increasing amount of severe weather events throughout the world, but I'm telling you, here in England, it couldn't be further from the truth. A six week period of "tepid" weather - our "summer", which, usually occurs in April; a wet and overcast July and August... (which I do acknowledge can sometimes lead to flooding) and then a strangely mild new year. Only now has the weather become what you might expect. What's happening?!! My Geography degree isn't helping me out here. What a strange thing weather is. I heard somewhere, that, in 50 years, southern England will have a climate similar to that of Portugal...

Video taken from my study.

stress relief...

Well I haven't got much to say at the moment, nothing to say about current affairs - the middle east, the "credit crunch" (oh I hate that expression) or anything else really. I'm still searching for work... just about surviving. So, instead I thought i'd share my special place with you - a part of the bedroom that belongs only to me and a great remedy to the stresses of living in the current climate! Try it!

Take care

various

Hello you 'orrible lot,

A new year, a new look.

This wasn't originally going to be a happy new year message but as I was going to post something anyway, I thought it would be rude not to at least say something small. Well, happy new year, and I hope that all your dreams come true... unless they were bad dreams (like some i've been having recently due to illness) then obviously, no, I don't wish that. I was (and still am) sat here at my computer feeling like death warmed up, so I thought it the perfect opportunity to make some kind of compilation of video clips which I recorded during my time in Argentina. I have been meaning to do it ever since I returned but I just haven't got round to it for various reasons. So after a couple of hours work, here it is.

(Looking at this video again, I am starting to wonder if I subconsciously make a point to record the most boring things possible and especially those of "geographical" insterest. I mean... quite a lot of this video is dedicated to rocks... but don't let that put you off watching it.)

Take care all.
