iPhone 3.0

Well hello all,

In the words of a slightly unfashionable song by Staind.."it's been a while"...

And it's true, it has been a while. Too long in fact! What usually inspires me to write again is when something makes me laugh or irritates me...usually the latter...

My latest rant then, would be with regards to the iPhone 3.0 update. Having a heard about the imminent release of the iPhone 3GS, I was unable contain my excitement when I heard that Apple would also be releasing a free update for current 3G users, which would include the majority of the updates to be included in the new phone. When has a company ever done that? It all sounded rather too good to be true, but when I was finally able to install the update, I was pleasantly suprised by the array of new features - it was rather like getting a new phone. My contentment was short-lived. Shortly after this, things became progressively worse: applications crashed and there was a ridiculous amount of slowdown. The silky smooth interface, for which the iPhone is so well renowned, all but disappeared. And it's still like that now. It's just too slow: menus don't scroll nicely, virtual buttons require repeated presses to work and a particular application, IM+, crashes for no reason and can't keep up with fast typing. I can't decide whether to restore the phone to operating system 2.0. It just seems like so much hassle! Apple, thanks for the free update, but i'd suggest that, either, it's glitchy, or, the 3G hardware just can't cope.

Has anyone else experienced any of these problems? Or perhaps, on the contrary, you've had good experiences with iPhone 3.0?

Take care all.
